Student Scholarship @ ODU

We are proud to partner with Old Dominion University in offering the Melinda Vooss Artfully Yours Memorial Art Education Scholarship to students who are pursuing their art education degree. As an ODU Art Education alumna, Melinda dedicated 18 years to teaching, inspiring her students to embrace creativity and self-expression through art. In collaboration with ODU’s leadership team and the Art Education program director, this scholarship is designed to support future art educators, continuing Melinda’s legacy of fostering creativity and a love for art in the classroom.

The $1,500 annual scholarship, the only of its kind for ODU Art Education students, provides a valuable opportunity for Art Education seniors to receive financial support during their student teaching internship in the Hampton Roads area. It recognizes and celebrates the dedication and achievements of preservice teachers, allowing them to focus on their professional growth and impact as future educators. Open to students enrolled in their final spring semester of student teaching, the scholarship helps offset expenses during this critical time in their development as educators.

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, samples of their artwork, a link to their teaching ePortfolio, a teaching philosophy statement, and evidence of academic merit. Selections are made based on scholastic and artistic achievements, contributions to the field, and the strength of the teaching ePortfolio, with an emphasis on candidates who demonstrate a deep passion for art education and a commitment to nurturing creativity in K-12 classrooms.
